Il \u00e9tudia le droit en Grande Bretagne avant de passer 21 ans en Afrique du Sud. L\u00e0 il se consacra \u00e0 la suppression des mesures gouvernementales qu\u2019il consid\u00e9rait comme injustes pour la population indienne install\u00e9e dans ce pays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"spip\">En 1915, il retourne en Inde o\u00f9, en 5 ans, il devint le chef du mouvement nationaliste Indien. A la t\u00eate de ce mouvement, il mena avec succ\u00e8s une campagne de r\u00e9sistance non violente contre le r\u00e9gime britanique. Il obtint alors l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance et l\u2019autonomie \u00e9conomique de l\u2019Inde.
