On Tuesday June 5th 2018, Mille Roches School commemorated the 74th anniversary of the Normandy landings. The operation codenamed ” OVERLORD ” led to liberation of France and later made the liberation of Europe possible.
That sunny day began with a magnificent performance of poetry reading that delighted more than one person, by 8th graders: poems written by advocates for freedom such as Verlaine, Rimbaud, Prévost, Carême.
Special CONGRATULATIONS to these volunteer students who invested themselves overnight in such a performance.
This educational project on D-Day (Overlord, Neptune and Fortitude operations) was the opportunity to display various students’works on Veterans, scenes of the landings (done in the English class), quotes on freedom, and the painting of two
realistic works of art based on two iconic photos of June 6th 1944.
The drawings made by the students from the Ulis class will not be forgotten ; since it was an added value to this project.
For Lunch, an American meal was served at the canteen : on the menu, a salad as a starter, followed by the quintessential hamburger served with French fries. For the dessert, the students had some tangerines. For the occasion, they could even have a coke.
During the afternoon break, the students could participate in various workshops, making pins and ”Liberty ”tote-bags, crosswords, word searches.
Mrs Cazanove, Mrs Ablancourt, Mrs Abdallah, Mrs Lefranc-Prusse, Mrs Oumana, Mrs Sautron, Mrs Clain J and Mr Pinot have done some outstanding work …being ,as usual, tireless colleagues, always willing to give of their time for their
pupils.
Our ambition was to introduce students to activities combining learning and achievement.
Our students responded in large numbers and were all motivated, creative, enthusiastic and happy.

Mrs Cazanove and Mrs Clain J.
