L’Australie : Séjour linguistique et Culturel à Adélaïde
Trente trois élèves des classes de 1ère européenne et 3 accompagnateurs (Mmes Payet-Jugand Pascale, Casals Elsa et M. Barthelet Gaël). se rendront en séjour linguistique à Adelaïde entre le 27 février et le 13 mars 2016.

Sports day Reynella
« Sports day » 🏃♂️

Today, in REC it was the « Carnival », and compare to our carnival, they do sports during this day.
So at 9:00 am we joined our team (red, blue, yellow or green) and we started the day with an assembly, with all the people.
The students of reunion island were very exciting because it’s been a long time they don’t do sport but also because we don’t have this in our school.
It was very impressive to see the huge amount of organisation that went into setting up this day.
There was a lot of things to do, like face painting (Gabrielle photo) , running, jumping and more.
The reunionese students preferred to stay of the side of running. And I think it was a good choice, in particulary for our champion : Soha. She came back with 4 medals (photo), and we are really proud of her!!
We had also discovered news sports like, javelo, dodgeball or high jump. It was so cool, especially dodgeball, we needed to be precise, fast, and stay focus on the others balls.
It was a very long day in Adelaide, but really good too, and I think we all had a lot of fun and laugh. I hope that one day we will do the same in Réunion Island.
So, this is the end of our beautiful trip in Australia, I think we can’t do better for our last day here! It is with a lot of new friends, photos, (sugar in our blood), and specially with many memories we come back in our island.
Aujourd’hui, c’était le carnaval au REC, et comparer à notre carnaval, ils font du sport pendant cette journée.
Donc, à 9h00 on a rejoint nos équipes (rouge, bleu, jaune ou vert) et on a commencé la avec une assemblé avec tous les participants.
Les élèves de la réunion étaient très excités parce que cela faisaient longtemps qu’ils n’avaient pas fait de sport mais aussi parce qu’on n’a pas ce genre d’événement dans notre école. C’était vraiment très impressionnant de voir l’immense organisation qu’il faut pour la mise en place de cette journée.
Il y avait pleins de choses à faire, comme la peinture du visage, la course, le saut et bien plus. Les réunionnais ont préféré rester du côté de la course. Et je pense que c’était un bon choix, en particulier pour notre championne : soha. Elle est revenue avec 4 médailles, et on est très fière d’elle !
On a aussi découvert de nouveaux sports comme le javelot, le ballon prisonnier ou le saut en hauteur. C’était vraiment cool, surtout le ballon prisonnier, on devait être précis, rapide et rester concentré sur les autres balles.
C’était une très longue journée à Adélaïde, mais c’était vraiment bien, et je pense qu’on a tous eux beaucoup de fun et de rires. J’espère qu’un jour on aura la même chose a la réunion.
Donc, c’est la fin de notre magnifique séjour en Australie, je pense qu’on ne pouvait pas faire mieux pour notre dernier jour ici ! Et c’est avec beaucoup de nouveaux amis, photos, (sucre dans notre sang) et surtout avec beaucoup de souvenirs qu’on rentre sur notre île.

Thursday 5 March
This Thursday, we followed our buddies in class to learn a bit more of the Australian system, it wasn’t so nice because in all the classes the students were not working much (playing on there laptops, not listening to the teachers…) even in sport they were not very concentrated but it was still fun. I played football myself. We learned that in Australia, the public school are not as strict as the private one.
At the end of the day, we did the farewell ceremony to our host family. The speech’s were very touching. After the speech’s we ate some pizza and danced with everyone, this was very good.
Ce Jeudi nous avons suivi nos correspondants pour apprendre un peu plus sur le système australien, ce n’était pas vraiment bien car les élèves ne travaillaient pas beaucoup (ils jouaient sur leurs ordinateurs, n’écoutaient pas les professeurs etc.) même en sport ils n’étaient pas vraiment concentrés mais c’était quand même amusant. Moi j’ai fait du foot. Nous avons appris que en Australie, les écoles publiques ne sont pas aussi strict que les privées.
A la fin de la journée, nous avons fait la cérémonie d’adieu à nos correspondants et famille d’accueil. Les discours était très touchant. Après les discours nous avons mangé des pizzas et nous avons dansé avec tous le monde, c’était vraiment bien.

Perth Modern School Swimming Carnival

Today we went to the swimming carnival, we took the bus to because the competition took place outside the School.
In Perth Modern School all the students belong to different houses: the yellow house is » Downing », the green one » Parsons », blue » Brown » and the red one » Sampson ». So all the houses compete against each other in this competition, the students have to swim fifty meters and use different type of swimming like butterfly, the breaststroke, the backstroke, or the crawl. By swimming the students earn points for their houses and the house with the most of points wins the cup. Throughout the competition there was a friendly atmosphere, the coaches had put on some good music and we supported everyone whatever their houses. So I didn’t have the feeling of competition but I saw it more as a moment of sharing with my friends, consequently I really enjoyed the day.
And of course we had the right to participate to the competition and in this case we wore the colour of our correspondent’s house, some of us where very good swimmers.
At the end of the day, the school announced the classification of the houses, which is as follows: 4th « Brown », 3rd » Sampson », 2nd » Parsons » and 1st « Downing ».

Aujourd’hui nous sommes allés au » swimming carnival » , pour cela on a pris le bus car la compétition se déroulait en dehors de l’école. Dans l’ecole de » Perth Modern School « , les élèves appartiennent à différentes maisons : la maison jaune est appelé » Downing », les bleus » Brown « , les verts » Parsons » et enfin les rouges » Sampson ». Ainsi, toutes les maisons s’affrontent en faisant des longueurs de 50 mètres dans la piscine et en utilisant differentes methodes de nage comme le papillon, la brasse, la nage sur le dos ou le crawl. En nageant les élèves rapportent des points à leur maisons pour qu’ensuite l’équipe qui a le plus de point remporte la coupe. Tout au long de la compétition, il y avait une ambiance très conviviale, les coachs mettaient de la musique et on encourageait tout le monde même ce qui ne sont pas de notre équipe. Je n’ai donc pas eu cette impression de compétition mais je l’ai vu comme un moment de partage avec mes amis, ce qui a fait que j’ai beaucoup apprécié cette journée. Et bien sûre nous avions le droit de participer à la compétition et dans ce cas là nous portions la couleur de la maison de notre correspondant. Certains d’entre nous étaient d’ailleurs de très bon nageurs.À la fin de la journée on a annoncé le classement des maisons, qui est le suivant: 4éme » Brown », 3éme » Sampson », 2ème » Parsons » et les 1er la maison » Downing ».
Kangaroo Island (Adelaide group)
After getting to kangaroo island by boat with a beautiful weather we have been to a school that hosted us as we stayed for two nights in this island. Nights at this place were pretty rough because it was very cold and a bit uncomfortable but we spent such a good time with our buddies that it was a
gorgeous experience.
So the first day we went to Emu Ridge, an Eucalyptus oil farm where we have seen two big emu and learn about this farm that make Eucalyptus oil since 1991. Then we have been to Clifford honey Farm, a place where we tasted different types of honey and learned about how honey is harvested.
We had also seen the disaster of forest fires in the island, it was depressing seeing this much burned trees, ashes and even a dead kangaroo.(cf photo 1)
After the first night some of students got up early in the morning to run on throughout the nature and kangaroos it was a very pleasant experience. Then we went to the Little Sahara, in there we sand-boarded, it was awesome and very fun for us to experiment this even if it was very tiring and difficult for us(cf clip de Nathan).
We went then to the Raptor Domain and saw the Fang-tastic show. In there we helded snakes and lizards and learned about reptiles and same with some birds of prey. It was very cool seeing those snakes lizards and birds of prey as they are very impressive and beautiful.(cf photo 2 and 3) After that we went to the Seal Bay, a wonderful beach where cute seals were sleeping on the sand or playing together in the see.(cf photo 4)
For dinner reunionese students cooked a « Cari Poulet », a typical dish of Reunion. And then, finally after the second night we left Kangaroo Island leaving behind us a wonderful place but with a lot of wonderful memories.
Perth, day 5 Pinnacles tour

Day 5, 28/02/2020
Today we went to Pinnacles, so me and my host woke up earlier at 6am to be at school at 7.30 am. Then we took the Magic Pinnacles bus. The driver named Ron was very kind. Then he drove us to the Yanchep National Park. Where we learned more about the inhabitants of the region : The Noongar people and more on the Australia’s typical flora (the black boy or the grasstree and the pepermint).
It was very interesting! We also saw Kangaroos and Koalas, there must have been snakes but we haven’t seen them unfortunately. We also had a snack with Australia’s typical food it was so good ! So after that, we took the direction of the Pinnacles desert. After 2 hours driving we stopped at the Nambung national park, where we visited the desert.
We learned that the desert (Pinnacles which means « sommet ») is called like this due to the plentiful of rocks. The fact that made me laugh was that our guide,Ron, was walking without shoes everywhere even in the shop. And finally we moved to Lancelin where we ate near to the beach, it was very beautiful !
Après cela, nous sommes allés faire du sandboarding !
C’était vraiment chouette! Il faisait très chaud, mais tout le monde était très content de pouvoir en faire. Le début de la pratique a été un peu périlleuse pour certains, mais on s’est vite habitués.
Et on a donc profité à fond ! Sur le chemin du retour, nous nous sommes arrêtés de nombreuses fois. La première fois, c’était pour voir la mer à Guildetown. Et la suivante pour voir des émeus.
Nous les avons même nourris avec des galettes de maïs. Puis nous sommes retournés à Perth Modern School où nous attendaient nos correspondants. Cette journée a vraiment été spectaculaire ! Et riche en émotions !
Day 4 in Perth, Fremantle

Today, we went to Fremantle to make an excursion. After we met each other in the school, our day really began at 10am.
Indeed, we visited the shipwreck museum of Fremantle. The museum is recognized as the foremost maritime archaeology museum in the southern hemisphere.
We saw hundreds of relics from shipwrecks from17th and 18th centuries.
It’s amazing because all these objects reflect an era that marked the beginning of Australia. People came to Australia during the 17th century, and with the museum we discovered their living-style on ships.
I enjoyed the tour because it reminds me my childhood, when I used to play pirates. For example, we saw a real cannon from a ship and it was really impressive ; a guide told us that it could shot a bullet to 2 miles…
After the visit, I ate a fish n chips and then we moved with the class to the Fremantle prison. We discovered the prisoners life, the guide even got me into the prisoner’s skin : my name was Heryk and I had to take part in the process of a new prisoner being incarcerate into Fremantle prison. She showed me everything the guards had to do before taking the inmate into the prison.
Then we made a tour of the jail : we took a look at the cells and imagined how life was for detainees ; a cell was all painted, a prisoner did that and it looked nice and weird at the same time.
The guide showed the punition room, it’s a tiny dark room where the prisoners had to be for 3-8weeks but with no light, they were ending blind. There is also a church in the prison. The atmosphere became weird when the guide made us doing the walk of a life-sentenced prisoner on the verge of being executed. We came in the execution room, we saw the rope and the trap that killed the criminals. I was feeling weird emotions by standing in this little dark room where thousands (or hundreds) peoples died. The atmosphere was gloomy. We learned that these executions just stopped 25years ago…

Friday night we went to the Fringe festival and I went on the Kamikaze ride and the trampoline ride. (picture 1) It was so much fun. It’s a very popular event in Australia and there were a lot of people attending. It was in the city and the main street was decorated for the occasion with lots of lights and street shows. (picture 2) Then we went to an aboriginal documentary show, it was a dark room with lots of lights on the walls. It was very informative and beautiful to see. (picture 3)
Saturday morning was relaxing time afterwards we went to see the giant Buddha wich is in Sellicks Hills, it was very impressive. The place is very traditionnal and there were temples next to it. (picture 4 and 5) After that we went down to the beach known as Willunga. It used to be a port with a long jetty that is no longer existing, all that is left is a couple of posts what use to be holding up the jetty. (picture 6) In the cliffs you can see some holes wich used to be shipping storage where sailers used to stock goods. (picture 7) While we were there a wedding was taking place in front of jetty ruins. We saw the bride coming down the stairs linking arms with her dad, it was very romantic. In the evening we welcomed all the family members for dinner, it was really cool to have so much people in the same place as they were coming from Sydney to attend.
Today we went babysitting to my host family friends house; their new baby’s name was Austin, he was so cute. They are new to parentshood and don’t really have time to spend together, so my host mother gave them a voucher to have brunch together while we were looking after their child. When they came back we went to Glenelg, a beautiful place to visit with lots of things to see. (picture 8)My host sister and I went on the giant ferris wheel and when we were at the top it was a breathtaking view.
Vendredi soir nous sommes allés au “Fringe festival” et j’ai fait plusieurs manèges dont le “Kamikaze” et j’ai aussi fait du trampoline. C’était très amusant. C’est un évènement assez populaire en Australie et il y avait donc pleins de gens. C’était dans le centre-ville et surtout sur dans la rue principale qui était décorée pour l’occasion avec beaucoup de lumières et il y avait des spectacles de rues un peu partout. Puis on est allé à un spectacle de lumière sur l’histoire des Aborigènes. Cela se passait dans une pièce sombre avec pleins de jeux de lumières sur les murs. J’en ai appris beaucoup et c’était magnifique à voir.
Samedi matin j’ai pu me relaxer et après cela on est allé voir une statue géante représentant Boudha qui se trouve à Sillick hills, c’était assez impressionnant. Cet endroit est plutôt traditionnel et on pouvait visiter des temples qui se trouvaient juste à côté de la statue. Ensuite on est allé à la plage, Willunga. Autrefois c’était un port avec une longue jetée qui n’existe plus aujourd’hui, en effet il ne reste plus que les piliers de l’ancien pont. Dans les falaises on peut apercevoir des sortes trous qui étaient auparavant des lieux de stockage pour les vendeurs qui ramenaient toutes sortes de biens. Pendant qu’on était sur la plage on a pu assister à un mariage qui se tenait face à la mer et aux ruines. On a pu voir la mariée descendre les escaliers au bras de son père, c’était très romantique. Le soir on a accueilli des membres de la famille pour dîner, c’était vraiment chouette d’avoir autant de gens au même endroit et certains d’entre eux venaient de Sydney.
Aujourd’hui on est allé faire du Babysitting chez des amis de ma famille d’accueil. Leur nouveau-né s’appelle Austin, il est trop mignon. Ce sont de nouveaux parents et ils n’ont pas beaucoup de temps à passer juste tous les deux, donc la mère dans ma famille d’accueil leur a offert un bon pour un brunch pendant qu’on surveille leur enfant. Quand ils sont rentrés on est allé à Glenelg, un endroit magnifique à visiter avec pleins de belles choses à voir. Avec la plus jeune soeur dans la famille d’accueil, Charli, on est allées dans la grande roue et quand on était tout en haut on a eu une vue à couper le souffle.
Friday at Reynella
This friday we tried the australian football (footy) with some chineses, japanese and korean students . This sport is very hard because it looks like basketball, rugby and soccer: we have to use our feet and hands.
But we still had a funny time.
Then, we have followed our buddies in class as the legal study. In this class, students are making researches on crimes like the murder of three young women. I think that it’s an interessant subject because it based on real fact .
Ce vendredi, nous avons essayé le football australien (foot) d’autres élèves japonais, chinois et koréens. C’est un sport compliqué car il ressemble au basket-ball, au rugby et au football: nous devons utiliser nos pieds ainsi que nos mains. Nous nous sommes bien amusé malgré tout
Ensuite, nous avons suivi nos correspondants en classe, comme l’étude juridique. Dans ce cours , les élèves font des recherches sur des crimes comme le meurtre de trois jeunes femmes. Je pense que c’est une matière très intéressante car elle est basée sur des faits réels .
Wildlife and Victor Harbor REC Day 4
Today we left for Urimbirra wildlife which is 40 minutes drive from Reynella east college. We saw several animals including cute birds that came on us (cf. Photo 1), but also kangaroos! Moreover we had the chance to feed them (cf. Photo 2), even if at the beginning we were a bit afraid because some of them have a very developed musculature and therefore rather terrifying we have much fun and this moment will surely remain engraved in our heads forever. Then we could observe koalas and even touch them (cf. Photo 3)! They were really very soft! After that we saw different animals a little less striking like snakes, varans and endemic birds. (cf.photo 4) After having eaten we went to an island called Victor Harbor, it was rather banal… certainly the landscapes were beautiful but compared to the park of the morning it was less exciting… moreover it was super cold! It’s very, very cold! Despite all this, the island still remains beautiful and we have a very good memory of it (see photo 5)! In the end this day was great! Rhythmed by wonderful landscapes, incredible animals and saturated memories because of the large number of photos we took! HUGO P
Aujourd’hui, nous sommes partis au Urimbirra wildlife qui se trouve à 40 min en voiture de Reynella east college. Nous avons vu plusieurs animaux dont des oiseaux trop mignon qui venaient sur nous (cf. Photo 1), mais aussi des kangourous! D’ailleurs, nous avons eu la chance de les nourrir (cf. Photo 2), même si au début nous avions un peu peur car certains d’entre eux avez une musculature très développée et par conséquent plutôt terrifiante nous nous sommes, au final, beaucoup amusé et ce moment restera sûrement gravé dans nos tête à jamais. Ensuite nous avons pu observer des koalas et même les toucher (cf. Photo 3)! Ils étaient vraiment très doux ! Après cela nous avons vu différents animaux un peu moins marquant comme des serpents, des varans et des oiseaux endémiques. (Cf.photo 4) Après avoir manger nous sommes aller sur une île appelée Victor Harbor, c’était plutôt banal… certes les paysages étaient magnifiques mais par rapport aux parc du matin c’était moins excitant… de plus il faisait hyper froid! Genre très très froid! Malgré tout cela l’île reste quand même magnifique et nous en gardons un très bon souvenir (cf.photo 5)! Au final cette journée était super! Rythmé par des paysages merveilleux, des animaux incroyable et des mémoires saturés à cause du grand nombre de photo qu’on a prises! HUGO P.
